It is always exciting seeing how and where our ancestors lived, therefore, in many countries, there are whole villages and towns, which recreate the life of the past. So, here is a list of national museums in the open air.

Skansen is the world's first open-air Museum founded back in 1891. It has 30 acres of land, where there are located more than 150 homes and buildings of XVIII—XIX centuries. All these buildings were collected throughout the regions of the country, from Lapland to Scan. The Museum has recreated windmills, houses, and entire city blocks. It allows you to get acquainted with the daily life of old Sweden, the Scandinavian country is famous for. For example, you can get acquainted with the craft of glassblowing, etc. In order to slowly around the whole exhibition, it is recommended to arrive there early. By the way, the Museum, in addition to historic buildings, also has a zoo, aquarium, theater, and lots of cozy cafes.

In this National Cultural History Museum, there is presented the way of life of the inhabitants of the island, that is to say, it will acquaint you with the folk culture and ethnography of the pre-industrial era, which began in the late XIX century. On the territory of the Museum complex, there is recreated the atmosphere of the traditional life of the islanders, for example, things such as weaving machines, presses for making olive oil and wine, and so on. An integral part of the exhibition is, of course, gardens with fruit trees and common island plants. The Museum also includes a folk art gallery, concert hall, cafe and gift shop.

3. Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine, “Pyrohiv”, Ukraine

The exhibition, the area of which is 150 hectares, acquaints its visitors with the national coloring of Ukraine. The Museum is divided into parts, according to the regional structure of the country (Transcarpathian, Transnistrian, Poltava regions, etc.). The main feature of the Museum is unique historic buildings such as cozy, whitewashed cottages, neat mills, and bright churches, allowing to plunge into the atmosphere of pre-revolutionary rural life.

Every year, Pirogovo hosts many national Ukrainian holidays and festivities, in which everyone can participate.

4. Jamestown Museum, USA

This outdoor Museum is based on the site of the first colonial settlements of the English who landed on the shore of the promised land in the distant 1607. In general, the exposition tells about the history of the conquest of the American continent; there you can see items such as furniture, weapons, and many other things preserved in the maelstrom of time. Anyone can dress in the armor of the first Americans, shoot a real gun, and try to hollow out a canoe.

The Beamish open-air museum is located in a beautiful countryside and is an area representing recreated life of the British of the XIX century. The complex of historical reconstruction demonstrates various equipment, vehicles, furniture, and costumes in a realistic environment of the Victorian era. After arriving in Beamish, you can visit a real city market, ride a horse-drawn tram, and see with your own eyes the work of the dentist of the last century. Besides, the Museum offers various events such as the production of sweets and track racing.
