AquaDom - Radisson Hotel's Cylindrical Aquarium

CityQuartier DomAquaree, Mitty, Radisson Blu

AquaDom Radisson Hotel Aquarium, the location of which can be found in CityQuartier DomAquaree in a district named Mitty, is a cylindrical acrylic aquarium that is considered to be the world's largest aquarium of that type with salt water. It is established in the center of the inner court of a 5-star hotel named "Radisson Blu" in Berlin.

This aquarium has a height of 16 m and a diameter of 11.5 m and is made of acrylic glass, while the concrete foundation on which it is built has nine meters, and the overall weight of the whole aquarium is 2000 tons. Also, it is capable of containing 1 million liters of water.

By means of a two-story elevator, all interested visitors can look into the interior of the aquarium where there are approximately 1,500 fish of 97 species. Fish feeding and cleaning are carried out by 3-4 divers on a daily basis. All its inhabitants eat up to 8 kg of feed every day.

AquaDom Radisson Hotel Aquarium

AquaDom is opened since December 2003. Its design was taken over by an American company named International Concept Management, Inc, while companies such as ICM and Muller-Altvatter had played the role of general contractors. Also, the needed technical equipment was supplied by a Norway company named E. Sander, and Reynolds Polymer company was delivering acrylic glass. In fact, AquaDom is the property of Union Investment Real Estate, and the overall cost of the project amounted to 12.8 million euros.

Generally speaking, the aquarium has 25-meters in height and cylindrical shape which is made of acrylic glass and is built around a transparent
lift. The outer side of the aquarium was created with the use of only four pieces, while the inner part of it for the elevator was delivered as one whole part.
