The Famous Henderson Waves Bridge In Singapore

Henderson Waves Bridge in Singapore

Having a height of 36 meters, Henderson Waves Bridge in Singapore is considered to be the highest bridge in the city. Apart from many beautiful and unique constructions the Singapour has, the bridge is, perhaps, the most impressive of them. It resembles a snake, winding around a branch.

The plan to build the bridge was designed in 2005 by a London company named "IJP" in collaboration with a Singapore architectural Bureau called "RSP Architects Planners" and engineers of "Ingenieros PTE Ltd." The construction began in 2006 and ended in 2008.

The bridge is based on a frame of curved steel ribs, resembling a wave and alternately rising over the bridge deck. The whole steel frame is covered with boards made of Balau trees growing in Southeast Asia. This kind of tree can tolerate very diverse climate, both moisture and heat, therefore, it is very well suited for such a structure.

The wavy wood bridge has a length of 294 meters and stands at the height of 36 meters above a road named Henderson, being thus the highest bridge in Singapore, as already has been said. The main goal to construct it was to unite two city parks, that is to say, Mount Faber Park and Telok Blangah Hill Park.

The bends of the bridge are in the form of waves, there are seven pieces of them, and they serve as niches containing benches where you can sit and admire magnificent sceneries the bridge provides you with. The "waves" are also the roofs, protecting campers from winds and the sun, thereby creating a cozy atmosphere.

Henderson Waves Bridge in Singapore is very famous and, therefore, is revered by residents of the city. It offers magnificent views of the picturesque parks, the harbor near it, and the whole Singapore, which is why many people come to this place to rest on the weekends and holidays with children and soulmates.

Being there, you can often meet newlyweds who are photographed against the backdrop of the beautiful beauty of the horizon. However, if you want to be more alone there, it is better to visit this place in the morning or evening as it is visited by a lot of urban vacationers and tourists during daylight hours.

The Bridge is, without a doubt, beautiful at any time of day and is especially beautiful at sunrises and sunsets. However, at night, when the LED-backlight is switched on, the bridge fills with soft lights making the place very romantic and dreamlike.
